11 Things Healthy People Do Before Work Every Day

Your morning routine influences everything else you do throughout the entire day. A balanced routine infused with healthy practices will improve your physical vitality and mental clarity, leaving you feeling calm and peaceful all day long. Detailed below are a few of the most effective morning habits healthy people maintain — and reasons why you should infuse them into your routine as well:

1. Avoid hitting the snooze button.

Healthy people know better than to hit the snooze button after the alarm goes off. This only forces you to rush through the remainder of your morning routine, leaving you feeling stressed before the day has even begun.

2. Meditate.

A happy and healthy day invariably begins with meditation. Focus on your breath and observe any thoughts that wander through your head — and then allow the mental chatter to float away.

3. Complete a few sun salutations.

Take your daily meditation to the next level with the sun salutation, a classic series of yoga poses designed to awaken the senses.

4. Drink water.

Hydration is essential throughout the day, but morning is a great time to get started. At minimum, you should aim to drink one tall glass of water before you leave for work.

5. Drink tea.

There’s nothing wrong with a little caffeine in the morning, but healthy people abandon the fancy drinks from Starbucks, and instead, brew tea at home. Green and white tea are the best choices, as they boost the immune system and improve mental clarity.

6. Eat a balanced breakfast.

Research indicates that a balanced breakfast can curb cravings later in the day. Balance refers not only to the food groups you include in your meal, but also to the various tastes and textures. By incorporating a variety of food types into your breakfast, you’ll give your body the full range of nutrients it needs to function properly throughout the day.

7. Prepare a healthy lunch.

A balanced breakfast is a great start, but you’ll want your healthy eating to continue into the lunch hour. By packing your lunch, you can avoid the temptation to grab snacks from the vending machine or lunch at the local fast food joint.

8. Avoid social media.

Electronic devices make it difficult to get to sleep at night and to get going in the morning. Nothing throws off your internal balance faster than a surf session on Facebook or Snapchat.

9. Listen to music.

Music lights up the brain and heightens positive emotion through our brains’ reward centers. It has a historic role in healing, and researchers have even looked for applications in healthcare. Start your day off right with some uplifting tunes.

10. Boost your energy with essential oils.

If you feel exhausted, don’t reach for that coffee or energy drink — look to citrus-based essential oils to give you a much-needed energy boost.

11. Take time to be grateful.

In the hustle and bustle of your morning routine, it can be tough to remember just how fantastic your life really is. Before you leave for work, think of at least one thing that makes you feel grateful.
