Pacific College of Oriental Medicine Invites the Chicago Community to Celebrate Acupuncture and Orie

Governor Quinn and Mayor Emanuel Proclaim October 24, 2011 Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day

CHICAGO (October 21, 2011) – Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) in downtown Chicago is pleased to invite the public to celebrate the benefits of acupuncture and Oriental medicine on October 24, 2011, from 12-3 pm. The College will offer lectures and presentations on Asian bodywork and Chinese medical massage (Tui Na) and Feng Shui, among others, and will provide free ear acupuncture treatments and Tui Na massages. All lectures and treatments are free in honor of the day that both Governor Quinn and Mayor Emanuel have officially proclaimed “Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day.”

Promoting Awareness and Benefits of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day is designed to increase public awareness of the progress, promise, and benefits of acupuncture and Oriental medicine. These Eastern therapies have a long and rich history as components of a comprehensive traditional medical system that has been used for thousands of years to diagnose and treat illness, prevent disease, and improve well being. Indeed, 65 to 80 percent of the world’s population and approximately 42 percent of all Americans utilize complementary medicine, and the majority of U.S. medical schools now offer courses on complementary medicine. Moreover, nearly one out of every 10 adults in the U.S. has tried acupuncture, and the number of the nation’s insurers covering acupuncture treatments almost tripled between 1992 and 2001.
