Pacific College Job Announcement – Student Advisor – San Diego Campus

Pacific College of Health and Science is hiring for the full-time position of Student Advisor at our San Diego campus. 

*The position requires 5 days per week onsite at the San Diego campus*

 General Job Summary:

The Student Advisor provides academic advisement and develops educational plan options for students across all programs; conducts student meetings and keeps accurate records; answers and responds to student email and telephone queries; explains and offers guidance on programs of study; provides referrals for academic and non-academic support; communicates with students in need of support; helps coordinate new student orientation; and attends appropriate department and general staff meetings.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Primary

  • Provide advising and academic planning for students across all programs. This includes developing academic plans, aiding with course registration, reviewing requests for schedule modifications, and liaising with other offices as needed to resolve student issues.
  • Review term break, leave of absence, and withdrawal requests.
  • Conduct student meetings in person and virtually and keep accurate records.
  • Address issues of student wellness and academic support, including referring students to personal support services and academic tutoring services.
  • Communicate with students in need of support.
  • Be familiar with state and national requirements for licensure and be able to communicate these requirements or refer students as needed.
  • Conduct degree audits for licensing exams, comprehensive exams, clinical progression, and graduation.
  • Assist in the coordination of new student orientation and other student services events.
  • Assist in admission and student retention initiatives.
  • Attend and participate in various committees and meetings, including the Student Success Committee, Curriculum Advisory Committee, and staff meetings.
  • Develop strong collaborations with other administrative departments including, but not limited to, Registrar, Admissions, and Financial Aid.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Secondary 

  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in academic advising, student support services, or a related area in a higher education setting.

Job Skills:

Required

  • Ability to commute to the San Diego campus.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to manage confidential records in a discrete and professional manner.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet completing deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to support the success of others.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use various databases.
  • Strong commitment to the vision of the College and the success of its students.

Preferred

  • Strong capacity for creativity and innovation is desirable.
  • Interest or experience in integrative health is a plus but is not required.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of the job in a typical office/workstation situation. Able to work sitting or standing at desk and operate a computer using keyboard and reading information on a monitor.

Salary Range: $25.00 -$27.00 per hour; Commensurate with experience
