2017 is bound to be a year of significant changes. Some are out of your control, but others may be spurred by the drive to create a better, more rewarding life. From meditating to returning to school, there are all kinds of things you can do to improve your life and the lives of those you love.
Set and Achieve a Realistic Goal
January 1st has come and gone, but it’s not too late to come up with an achievable New Year’s resolution. Think carefully of what you want to accomplish academically, professionally, financially, and socially, and commit to one or two goals that you know you can achieve. The rush you receive when you accomplish a goal is well worth the effort.
Meditate
Stress isn’t inherently bad, but if you fail to keep it at a manageable level or otherwise handle it appropriately, you could be setting yourself up for significant health problems in the future. Meditation is an excellent option for handling stress; it teaches you to analyze sources of stress and anxiety from a more detached perspective. Enroll in a meditation class, spend time at a local yoga studio, or try meditation from the comfort of your own home.
Book an International Trip
A trip abroad can quickly change the way you think about the world around you, opening your eyes to different ways of living. If you get the chance, book a trip abroad and resist the temptation to spend all of your time on the beach. The more you immerse yourself in a culture different from your own, the more you’ll gain from your time abroad. Be sure to consider the many options for traveling beyond a traditional vacation; you could study abroad or sign up for a volunteer or missionary trip.

Return to School
If you’ve been putting your education on hold, now is the time to jump back into school and make your academic dreams come true. You can take a class or two to amp up your knowledge in a specific area, or jump back into a degree program you’ve neglected. Education is one of the best ways to invest in yourself and to improve your earning potential.
Ditch Jobs That Don’t Bring Satisfaction
If you regard your job as little more than a paycheck — and if going to work makes you miserable — it’s time to stop coasting merely for the sake of making a living. Your fear of the unknown could be holding you back from embracing your dream job. It’s worth your while to at least send out your resume and get a feel for available job opportunities. If you find that your profession in general is making you unhappy, you have yet another reason to return to school and pursue a field of study that actually brings you joy.
Ditch the status quo this year and shake up your way of life. Even small changes can could pay big dividends by the end of 2017. Dream big and you will be well on your way to health and happiness in the near year.
