By Pacific College - May 14, 2015

SAN DIEGO, CA (June 24, 2013) — Pacific College supervisors and interns will be supporting the veteran community by donating their time and holistic healing talents during this year’s 26th Annual Stand Down event, July 12-14, 2013.

Veterans will be able to come by and receive free acupuncture and massage treatments from Pacific College representatives, during the following times:

Friday and Saturday: 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Sunday: 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Pacific College embraces the veteran community and is proud to come and support. Pacific College Clinical Director Greg Lane, LAc says:

“The heart of a healer is filled with compassion and the desire to serve. The heart of a warrior is filled with honor and the desire to serve.  These two worlds come together at Pacific College.  Some of our students are veteran’s themselves.  Giving back to the community is not just about being of service, it is about answering a calling.”

History and Significance of Stand Down Events

Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) organized the nation’s first Stand Down in 1988. The meaning of “Stand Down” comes from the idea that, “You don’t leave anybody outside the wire. If you’ve got wounded outside the wire, you go get them, regardless of the cost.” ~Stand Down Founders Robert Van Keuren and Dr. Jon Nachison

Today, Stand Down refers to a community-based intervention program designed to help the nation’s estimated 200,000 homeless veterans “combat” life on the streets. Since the first Stand Down, the program has been widely replicated nationwide. Today, more than 200 Stand Downs take place across the country every year.

This year’s event will be located in the North Parking Lot on the campus of San Diego City College on Park Blvd and will be marked by large pop-tents and sunshades.
