From the U.S. National Library of Medicine – this one-stop site contains many links to information published by government agencies about different health conditions and links to organizations, directories, dictionaries, and clearinghouses.
MEDLINE with Full Text is the world’s most comprehensive source of full text for medical journals, providing full text for more than 1,370 journals indexed in MEDLINE. Of those, more than 1,340 have cover-to-cover indexing in MEDLINE, and of those, 528 are not found with full text in any version of Academic Search, Health Source or Biomedical Reference Collection.
This site was designed to provide access to the current MEDLINE and then link to full-text articles where available from citations retrieved. A nice feature of PubMed is the ability to link to “related articles” when you find an article on your topic.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Get up-to-date public health information on communicable diseases (e.g. hepatitis, AIDS, tuberculosis, etc.). Invaluable information can be obtained from the Traveler’s Health section including travel advisories for specific geographic regions, disease outbreaks, risks and prevention strategies, plus immunization recommendations. Full-text access to Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), reports on communicable disease.
The U.S. National Institutes of Health, through its National Library of Medicine, has developed ClinicalTrials.gov to provide patients, family members and members of the public current information about clinical research studies. Before searching, you may want to learn more about clinical trials and more about this Web site.

Healthfinder – Powered by Google
DHHS Healthfinder now offers a powerful site and new way to access and search for information on this database.
The online consumer health information web site produced by the U. S. Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. The site offers user-friendly access to its original material (core information such as fact sheets and frequently-asked-questions on top health concerns), and hyperlinks to Federal, state, local, university and nonprofit consumer health resources, online documents, discussion groups, electronic mail lists, and federal databases.
National Health Information Center
Provides the Health Information Resource Database listing over 1000 organizations and government offices that provide health information upon request. This site contains synopses of the annual Partnership for Networked Consumer Health Information conference.
This website for older adults was developed by the National Institute on Aging and the National Library of Medicine, both part of the National Institutes of Health.
PubMed Central (PMC) is the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s digital archive of life sciences journal literature. Access to PMC is free and unrestricted.
PubMed Health specializes in reviews of clinical effectiveness research, with easy-to-read summaries for consumers as well as full technical reports. PubMed Health is a service provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). PubMed Health partners with major Health Agencies and the Cochrane Collaboration to include systematic reviews of clinical trials and evidenced based medicine information. U.S. Food and Drug Administration
Safety information for drugs (for human and animals), cosmetics, food products, and medical and radiological devices. Free full-text of FDA Consumer magazine articles is available on the site (from 1995) and under the Health Professionals section you can access the Bad Bug Book (offering basic facts on food borne pathogenic organisms and natural toxins). The FDA Web Site Index is easy to use. Check under “Web sites” for links to non-government sites.

MedlinePlus.Gov – Drugs, Supplements and Herbs
A service of the National Library of Medicine/ NI H National Institutes of Health.

Grades reflect the level of available scientific data for or against the use of each therapy for a specific medical condition. Search for scholarly literature using Google’s familiar search engine. Not as precise as using a database like Ebsco or Gale, but can be a good starting point to help narrow down your search. Google Scholar’s focus is mostly on the humanities.
This is a comprehensive consumer health site with information on topics from A-Z, discussion centers, and the online advice of Dr. Dean Edell. Other features include personalized health profiles and advice about finding and using health information from an online librarian, Rochelle Perrine Schmalz, the founding medical librarian of the first Planetree Health Resource Center, (opened in 1981).
A colorful and healthful world is mapped out on this site offering both alternative and conventional medical information – including text on self-care approaches to common problems, excerpts from the classic Nutritional Influences on Illness, audio readings from the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and links to the Merck Manual and Medline. The advisory board and authors are leaders in the fields of consumer health and complementary medicine. This site provides a fee-based Internet search service ($50/hr) that reviews web sites and includes a Medline search.

They offer free Medline access and some access to full text journals. Updated weekly; email notification of updates is also available.

One of the world’s foremost medical research centers. An agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the NIH is the federal focal point for health research. The NIH website offers health information for the public as well as medical professionals.
OTseeker Occupational Therapy Systematic Evaluation of Evidence
OTseeker is a database that contains abstracts of systematic reviews and randomized controlled trials relevant to occupational therapy. Trials have been critically appraised and rated to assist you to evaluate their validity and interpretability. These ratings will help you to judge the quality and usefulness of trials for informing clinical interventions. OTseeker provides you with fast and easy access to trials from a wide range of sources.
PEDro is a free database of over 17,000 randomized trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy. George Institute of Global Health, affiliated with University of Sydney, Australia.
Qigong and Energy Medicine Database
The Qigong and Energy Medicine Databaseâ„¢ is a collection of over 5000 abstracts collected by Dr. Sancier and the Qigong Institute over the past twenty years. It includes a database of Qigong dissertations.
