The Leaf Online, which covers aspects of the cannabis world including science, business, lifestyle, and politics, recently published an overview of Pacific College’s new cannabis certification program, the first college-level accredited certificate of its kind in the United States.
“The medical cannabis courses are designed to produce healthcare professional who can educate and coach patients on the therapeutic benefits of the medicine, potential adverse effects or drug interactions, dosing and self-titration approaches, and the safe and effective use of cannabis while promoting overall health and well-being through the upregulation of the human endocannabinoid system.
Exploring the Need for Cannabis Education in Healthcare
With the lack of cannabis education available to healthcare professionals, the growing need for this type of training has become increasingly more evident. ‘The need for this education is vast. There is little information about dosages, and we need to educate people in a balanced way,’ Pacific College Chief Operating Officer Malcolm Youngren says. ‘The Pacific College of Health and Science has been at the center of alternative medicine for the last 30 years and is deeply invested in providing this education.'”
The Leaf Online also explained some of the reasoning behind the recent name change to Pacific College of Health and Science, as “the interests of today’s students, faculty and alumni extend well beyond the borders of Chinese medicine, and the college decided to adopt a name that embraces diversity to accommodate the needs of future generations, as well as today’s nursing, acupuncture, massage, and health science students,” while still noting that the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine will persist under the auspices of the Pacific College of Health and Science.
