Enjoy a Healthy Start to the New Year with Festivities at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine

NEW YORK, CHICAGO, and SAN DIEGO, CA (JANUARY 5 2012) — Pacific College of Oriental Medicine is ringing in the Chinese New Year this January with special celebrations offering workshops on acupuncture, massage or qi gong; demonstrations and complimentary treatments; sampling of edible Chinese herbs; lectures on topics including nutrition and Chinese astrology, and much more. The longest and most important holiday in the Chinese calendar, Chinese New Year begins on January 23rd and runs through mid-February. Ushering in the Year of the Dragon, it is a time to say goodbye to past resentments and bad luck, and to manifest good fortune and wellbeing for the year to come.

The Symbolism of the Year of the Dragon

In ancient China, the Dragon represented the emperor and has always been a symbol of power. Today, it is seen as an auspicious symbol of success, happiness, and good fortune. Consistent with those themes, the color red, which symbolizes fire and is thought to drive away bad luck, is often seen throughout Chinese New Year celebrations. In addition to celebratory meals and fireworks, cleaning house is customary, as well as repainting doors and windowpanes, as a means to sweep away any traces of bad luck that may have accumulated over the past year and make room for good luck.

As we lay to rest past grievances and make room in our lives for reunion, reconciliation, and good fortune, so we can do the same for our bodies. Participants at Pacific College’s Chinese New Year events can learn from our experts how acupuncture, massage, and other forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine can not only address injury and disease, but also can prepare and protect our bodies for long-term wellbeing. Try a treatment, learn more about the Year of the Dragon and those born into it, and celebrate renewal.

All events are free and open to the public.

Please note that all activities will not be available at all campuses. Please consult the specific schedule for the campus event you plan to attend, or call 1-877-764-2694 for additional information.
