Garman, Karen, EdD, MAPP

Dr. Garman is president and senior learning consultant of Healthcare Education, Leadership & Performance, Inc. (HELP, Inc), where she trains healthcare providers how to become better educators, leaders and researchers. Her professional training is in medical education and is a certified human performance improvement expert with 30 years of experience in instructional development, behavioral research design and implementation of a variety of medical education programs in public and private healthcare systems such as UCSD School of Medicine, San Diego County Health and Human Services, the VA, and Kaiser Permanente. As associate adjunct professor of medicine at UCSD School of Medicine, her research is in the innovative application of the growing field of positive psychology to develop healthcare providers’ positive emotions and strengths by using positive feedback, as well as, training primary care physicians and non-physician healthcare providers in the positive interventions that benefit clinical patient outcomes.
