Debra is originally from Indiana and Ohio. At the age of 14, she moved with her family to North Carolina where she finished High School and went to East Carolina University and received a BFA in Textile Design in 1988. After graduating, Debra traveled in Asia where she first encountered Eastern philosophies and healing modalities. She received bodywork and acupuncture while in China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Bali. After a year in Asia, she returned to the US to begin working on her career in the apparel industry. During this 18 year period working as a designer, Debra also developed an interest in Chinese Medicine and Qigong.
