Awards & Recognition

Pacific College strives to advance the field of Oriental medicine by conducting research, upholding high educational standards, participating in legislative action, and maintaining community involvement. It is through these avenues that Pacific has received numerous awards and honors. It is our pleasure to share a brief list of our most recent accolades with you.

•Pacific College was the first college of TCM in the state of California to be approved to award a Doctoral program in Acupuncture and Oriental medicine.

•Pacific College of Oriental Medicine was selected as one of the “Best of the West” colleges of traditional Chinese medicine in the U.S. by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) World newspaper in 2001 and 2003. The college was one of four winners to take honors in the clinical training category ('01, '03), as well as one of three winners in the curriculum category ('01). The study, which looked at a school’s faculty, curriculum, and clinical training, was open to the 70 plus colleges of Oriental and traditional Chinese medicine in the United States. Clinical training winners were selected for their outstanding, knowledgeable clinical directors and their ability to offer excellent learning opportunities in supervised clinical settings. Curriculum winners were selected for their outstanding course design, which incorporates intensive learning in the philosophy, principles, and theories of TCM and helps preserve authentic Chinese medicine and training in the West.

•Pacific College faculty and alumni provided volunteer acupuncture and bodywork care for those affected by the World Trade Center disaster. The efforts of roughly 150 Pacific College volunteers who donated their time around the clock at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan appeared in the September 15th, 2001 issue of the New York Times. Pacific volunteers treated Task Force search and rescue workers, Military Police, and search and rescue dogs for aches, pains, insomnia, fatigue, and other ailments.

•Pacific College’s President, Jack Miller, received the California Society for Oriental Medicine “Outstanding Leadership Award” in 1997.

•Pacific College was one of the few recipients of the National Institutes of Health Office of Alternative Medicine’s original research grants.
