NEWS RELEASE July, 10 2008 The 20th Anniversary of the Pacific SymposiumSince its creation in 1989, the Pacific Symposium, produced by Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, has been an annual opportunity for further education and rich interactions with experts in traditional Chinese medicine. Each year, Pacific Symposium provides those in the field of Oriental medicine to meet one another and explore healing in a beautiful setting, the Catamaran Resort Hotel in Pacific Beach, California. Acupuncturists, chiropractors, nurses, massage practitioners, medical doctors, and patients all converge at this conference to exchange professional insights. The fantastic quality of speakers is one of the many benefits of Symposium, which also offers the opportunity of continuing education courses to current practitioners. Each speaker's presentation is worth a specific number of continuing education units (CEUs), which are necessary to maintain one's license. Attendees can earn up to a maximum of 50 CEUs while selecting from a wide variety of speaker topics. Topics this year are again varied and fascinating, including Treating Common Neurological Problems and Severe Paralysis Using Neuro-Acupuncture Techniques, Acupuncture and IVF: How to Understand the Research and Effectively Treat Your Patients, and An Introduction to Facial Blueprints Prevention of HPV-related cancers with Chinese medicine. In more recent years, Pacific College also developed the popular Restoration Track, available at Pacific Symposium. The Restoration Track is a hands-on, relaxing series of workshops that provides an in-depth exploration of bodywork and massage. Each Symposium has had a Keynote Speaker headline the event. Coming full circle to celebrate its 20 years of success, this year's Symposium will feature Ted Kaptchuck. Kaptchuck has written widely on the topic of traditional Chinese medicine, including over 100 scientific and medical articles. The Pacific Symposium has attracted such well known speakers including Deepak Chopra, Andrew Weil, Kiiko Matsumoto, Giovanni Maciocia, Steven Halpern, Ravi Shankar, Dr. Shudo Denmei, and many others who have brought their knowledge to share with students, practitioners, faculty, and alumni, through this four-day event each November.
