Chinese New Year Open House
In an effort to address current national health issues and educate the
public about complementary choices in healing, Pacific’s San Diego
campus has made their Chinese New Year Open House a regular part of its
outreach program. Pacific’s annual Chinese New Year Open House celebration
invites the public to the college for a day of learning and relaxing.
The college offers complimentary 20-minute acupuncture treatments for
smoking cessation and stress reduction, 15-minute massages, Tai Ji and
Qi Gong demonstrations, and informational lectures. Lecture topics in
the past have included: Stress and Pain Management, Preventing Colds and
Flu, Healing the Spirit, Women’s Health Issues, The Profession of
Oriental medicine, An Introduction to Yin & Yang, and Chinese Astrology.
Celebrations at each campus also include refreshments and certificates
for complimentary acupuncture treatment s for new patients. The public
is invited to tour the campus and meet with staff and faculty to further
their knowledge of Pacific College’s programs and the field of Oriental
medicine.
On this day, student volunteers are able to earn clinic credit, add to
their intern patient load and gain valuable experience communicating the
benefits and mechanisms of Chinese medicine to the public. Many Open House
attendees have not been exposed to the college or Chinese medicine before
the event, and for some, it is their first experience receiving acupuncture
or massage. Chinese New Year Open House, which typically draws over 300
attendees in San Diego, is free and open to the public.
