Pacific College Alumni Profile - Andrea Beth Damsky:

Andrea Beth Damsky came to San Diego from Berkeley in 1997 to attend PCOM. She graduated in 2002 and practiced in San Diego for 2 years before relocating to Cottonwood, Arizona.

Originally from New York, Andrea Beth was prompted to study Chinese medicine after receiving treatment in San Francisco for her fibromyalgia. She is delighted to offer both acupuncture and herbal remedies as options to her patients through her private practice and at the Spa at Sedona Rouge in Sedona AZ.

Most of her patients come for pain relief, but Andrea Beth is also interested in internal medicine. She has done numerous presentations on the benefits of Chinese medicine for cancer survivors, women in menopause, and those living with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. She has also done outreach to the gay and lesbian community, offering health services to a population that frequently has difficulty finding compassionate and understanding practitioners. She was interviewed for a forthcoming textbook on fibromyalgia as both a patient and a treating specialist. Women's medicine is another of her specialties, including everything from menarche to menopause.

She is currently creating CEU classes for massage alumni at Northern Arizona Massage Therapy Institute, and Arizona School of Integrative Studies. The focus of these classes is to educate massage practitioners about the benefits of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

Andrea Beth worked for PCOM as a tutor for 3 years, and in the herb pharmacy. She was active in the school's Student Council, and served as the school's delegate representative to the student lobbying organization within CSOMA. After graduating from PCOM, she continued to serve the college by participating on the school's Curriculum Advisory Committee, proctoring year-end exams, and as a Teacher's Assistant in various classes.

She is a frequent contributor on the Chinese Herb Academy and Traditional Chinese Medicine e-mail discussion lists, and is a member of the National Organization of Women Business Owners. In October 2005, she became certified as a Community Emergency Response Team member. Her training enables her to assist fire, police, and rescue workers in first-response efforts during a disaster, emergency, or terrorist event. Beth is the Director of Acupuncture Detoxification Services at Desert Canyon Addiction Treatment Center in Sedona, Arizona

Andrea Beth's hobbies include hiking and singing. She apprenticed with a cantor while living in Berkeley, and is trained to lead synagogue services as a cantorial soloist. She participates in an eclectic, liberal form of Judaism called Jewish Renewal, and hopes to create a lay-led prayer community in the Cottonwood area. Her future dreams include recording her own songs, and training for ordination as a rabbi, with a focus in pastoral care.
