Cancer and GCG Active Acupuncture Treatment

By Magnolia Goh, L.Ac

Cancer is a general term for the abnormal growth of cells. A cancer cell has an abnormal chromosome from genetic change or damage. The altered gene starts sending the wrong message or at least a message different from the one it should give. A cell begins to grow rapidly, multiplying again and again until it forms a lump that is called a malignant tumor or cancer.

There are hundreds of types and stages. There is no definite cause, and there is no one single cause of cancer. Scientists have identified many factors that increase the chance of getting cancer. Some people are more sensitive than others to factors that can cause cancer. Research has found that there are some conditions and materials related to cancer, such: tobacco, X-ray, some hormones and drugs, excessive exposure to sunlight, industrial agents or toxic substances (pesticides). Additional factors that promote cancer include diets that are excessive in fats, animal protein and sugars. Obesity and deficiencies in fiber are also factors to be considered. Other conditions related to the development of cancer include high stress, alcohol abuse, family heredity and immune system weakness.

Today, there are countless treatment modalities available, and scientists all over the world are continuing to work on developing treatments for cancer that are more effective and less toxic. But up to the present, there is no one treatment that can definitely cure one kind of cancer. Moreover, all traditional cancer treatments have risks and cause numerous side effects. Surgery can cause bleeding, clotting in legs from poor circulation, and infection, since most cancer patients have compromised immune systems. It is well known that radiation treatment for cancer causes fatigue or malaise, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hair loss and lower abdominal cramps. It is common for the skin in the treated area to become red, dry and tender. Chemotherapy can cause fatigue, sleepiness, hair loss, sore mouth, nausea, diarrhea and depressed blood counts. The current orthodox cancer treatments are very strong and toxic. In many cases, patients have to stop the treatment before completing the prescribed course. So e patients have even died because of the treatments.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) considers cancer to be the result of stagnation of Qi, or a blockage in the energy pathway. When the energy ceases to flow freely through some organs or areas, the toxicity remains, causing an accumulation. To accommodate this new accumulation, tissues and organs develop into tumors or cancer. Today, there are many reports about using acupuncture and herb formulas for the treatment of cancer with good results. For those cancer patients who choose to use radiation, chemotherapy or a combination of both, acupuncture is able to reduce or minimize the side effects.

However, because acupuncture causes a stimulation from the acupuncture needles to the body, if the body is weak with poor circulation, the response to any stimulation will be weak. Consequently, acupuncture treatments in some cases will not yield the results one would expect to see, it is for this reason that Mr. Cheng De Gu, Zhaoyang Chen and Magnolia Goh invented Gu, Chen, Goh (GCG) Active Acupuncture-a new therapeutic method.

GCG Active Acupuncture is a combination of Gu's exercise and special acupuncture techniques. The key difference from general acupuncture is that GCG Active Acupuncture provides acupuncture stimulation after Gu's exercise, when the patient's blood circulation in the specific area is improved. Thus, the body is in a prepared state or condition to respond to the acupuncture stimulation.

The human body has a strong self-healing power, which shows in many circumstances. When the body is in an unbalanced state, the body itself will make some adjustments to try to return to the balanced state.

However, sometimes the body loses its ability to self-balance. At this point, the body is unable to correct the injury or damage from illness. But if the body's self-healing power is tricked or stimulated by some special method, the recovery procedure will start to assist the body in repairing the damage and injury and thus restore the balance. Gu's exercise is specially designed to focus on the body's internal organs. This special exercise can make the body adjust the arrangement of circulation according to its needs. When the acupuncture needles are inserted on a certain meridian, the stimulation from the needles gives the body signals to respond maximally.

From our clinical experience, cancer patients respond better with GCG Active Acupuncture. It is generally understood that most cancer patients have poor circulation and limited energy. Many of them could not handle their activities of daily life. The illness and the time required for treatments have taken away their energy. Regular exercises need time and require considerable expenditure of energy to muscles, so the regular exercises could be limited to cancer patients' daily activities.

Gu's exercise is different from traditional exercise in that it emphasizes improving the circulation and overall function of the internal organs, regulating hormone levels in the body, and strongly enhancing circulation to the area where the illness is. Gu's exercises could be done from five to thirty minutes, one to fives times a day depending on the patient's condition. After Gu's exercises, patients do not feel tired. Instead, they have more energy afterward. When patients come to GCG Active Acupuncture, they receive an individualized program that gives them immediate energy, because the energy pathway is stimulated and the blockage starts to be removed. Then, and only then, can accurate acupuncture points enable the body to respond to stimulation in an effective manner, initiating the self-healing procedure to control the symptoms and restrict the growth of cancer.

The lateral longitudinal arch extends from the calcaneus through the last two metatarsals. It is shorter and lower than the medial arch with its keystone bone being the cuboid, located just above UB 63 (Jinmen).

In our practice, we are seeing outstanding results in the following areas:

  • Recovering from radiation and chemotherapy faster.
  • Improved response with traditional cancer treatments
  • Immune systems are stimulated and getting stronger.
  • More efficient digestion allowing for better nutrition for repair and recovery.
  • Better control of cancer related pain, especially when the pain is severe.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine are often considered alternative medicine. But, as more problems are found to be caused from orthodox medicine, the medical profession is beginning to recognize that complementary medicine, integrated with western medicine, is the future of cancer treatment. GCG Active Acupuncture is a revolution in acupuncture treatment and exercise, and can offer a great contribution to the future of medicine and well being.
