New Website Offers Timesaver for Acupuncturists Looking for Work

Andrea Gurciullo, a 1998 Pacific College graduate, recently created acupuncturejobs.com, and internet site dedicated to placing acupuncturists in jobs in established clinics and colleges. At the site, acupuncturists will be able to search for or post job openings and faculty positions, as well as space and practices for sale, all at no charge. The site will also offer opportunities for acupuncturists to find "temp" positions, filling in for acupuncturists who are on leave. This allows for flexibility without the long-term commitment to any one clinic.

Acupuncturists can register for the service over the internet, but those who are local to the New York area and looking for work are required to come in for a personal interview. Generally acupuncturists are placed in privately owned western medical clinics that don't already offer acupuncture. All have a chiropractor or M.D. on staff, with many specializing in pain, gynecology and cosmetics. In the future, Gurciullo plans on pursuing contracts with hospitals and others in order to offer a wider variety of settings and extend the reach of acupuncture and Oriental Medicine into more western medical settings.

Since Fall of 1999, Gurciullo has placed Pacific College graduates and other acupuncturists into offices she owns and operates, as well as other clinics in the NY area. "I realized that there was a great need for one location where an acupuncturist could go to find a job," said Gurciullo. Not only does the website offer the potential to save a lot of time for acupuncturists and employers alike, it offers newly licensed acupuncturists a good starting wage and an invaluable resource in the community. Gurciullo plans to promote the site in chiropractic and acupuncture journals as well as through direct mail.

While acupuncturejobs.com primarily serves the areas of New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, Gurciullo hopes to soon branch out to other states as well. The busy Pacific College alumna owns and operates five offices in the NY area in addition to her own private practice in Garden City, NY.
